Military Divorce or Regular Divorce?

Filed Under:

Question of the Day:

My son is a LCPL in the Marines. He married one year ago and now regrets it. He wants a divorce. Does he have to get a military divorce or a regular divorce?  – CM

Answer:

CM: There is only one type of divorce.  You may hear the term “military divorce” which means that there are special provisions for members of the military in dealing with certain issues such as hearing dates, custody, retirement and defaults, but it is still what you might call a regular divorce.
