How Long Does Permanent Alimony Last?

Question of the Day:

Does the Judge have the right to order a permanent spousal support? If the spouse is currently earning more than the other spouse and has remarried? Does the spousal spouse end? – Marie

Answer:

Marie: In my jurisdictions, a judge can order indefinite spousal support which is also called permanent alimony. In deciding this, the judge must consider the earning ability of each party as well as other factors. Indefinite alimony ends upon the death of either party or the remarriage of the person receiving the payments. The payor can also petition the court to terminate alimony in the event of a change in circumstances.
