Better Way Mediation is a two person mediation firm with our home office located on Cape Cod.

We have been practicing mediation since 2004 and have established a sound reputation for professionalism and success.

  • Divorce settlements
  • Parenting concerns
  • Financial disagreements
    • Landlord/tenant
    • Contract disputes
  • Family conflicts
  • Marital problems
  • Community disputes
    • Conflicts between neighbors
    • Problems with the broader community

Why mediation?

  • Mediation is a conflict resolution technique.
  • Mediators act as intermediate agents to help resolve differences between conflicting parties.
  • Mediators are neutral. We don’t take sides or decide who is right or wrong.
  • Mediators facilitate communication and promote cooperation between the disputing parties.
  • Mediation is confidential. We will not divulge any information discussed during the process.
  • Mediation results in just and impartial agreements.
  • Mediators assist clients in crafting their own agreements.
  • Mediation is voluntary.  Each party must agree to participate and may withdraw at any time.
  • Mediation typically costs significantly less than litigation.

What to expect:

The mediation process begins with an intake interview by phone or in person.  This interview will determine whether your case is appropriate for mediation.

At the initial session all parties will be present.  Then, during the course of mediation we will meet with the parties either together or individually as required.  Meeting times and locations are flexible.

In the working sessions we will determine the particular area or areas of conflict and objectively help you work out a solution that meets the needs of both parties.  In some cases, this may include written agreements.

The process can entail one session or it may require multiple sessions based on the needs of the parties.

Fees:

Our fees will depend upon the amount of time required to resolve the issues.  No fee is charged for the first half-hour of the initial meeting, after which we determine whether all parties want to proceed. A mediated divorce typically costs significantly less than a litigated divorce.

About the mediators:

    Julie Doyle

Julie began her mediation training at Cape Mediation, where she expanded on her training with a course in Elder Mediation.  Professionally trained with Divorce Mediation Training Associates of Cambridge, she has also completed training in Transformative Mediation in Portland, Maine and National Guard Family Mediation Training with the Massachusetts Office of Dispute Resolution (MODR) in Boston. After many years of a career in the textile arts, Julie sought to apply her people skills in a career in mediation.  This has taken her to the Stoughton Middle School as a Peer Mediation Coordinator and to a position as the Coordinator of the Court Mediation Program at Brockton District Court.  In addition, she currently mediates in the Cape Cod courts and in numerous private cases.

    Janet Simons
