Beverly Farlow is the owner and principal of Farlow & Associates, LLC. She has been engaged in the private practice of law since 1989, focusing on family relations law and on school law, employment law. She has served as a contract mediator with United States Arbitration and Mediation, and as a hearing officer for the State of Ohio Department of Education. She has frequently lectured on both school law and family law for diverse groups, including the Ohio State Bar Association, National Organization on Legal Problems in Education, Ohio School Board Association, Franklin County Trial Lawyers, Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators, and Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators. Ms. Farlow is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a specialist in family relations law. She is licensed to practice before all courts in the state of Ohio, federal courts in Ohio, and the United States Supreme Court. Prior to beginning her career as an attorney, Ms. Farlow served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Turkey, teaching English as a second language.
Ms. Farlow has been a resident of Columbus since 1971, although she is originally from Flat Rock, Indiana. In 1967, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio. Upon graduation, she joined the Peace Corps and taught English as a second language in Fatsa and Erzurum, Turkey for two years. She attained professional fluency in the Turkish language.
Between Peace Corps and law school at the Ohio State University, she taught English for twelve years in North Carolina, Illinois, and Ohio, specializing in mythology, creative writing, and world literature. She was active in union affairs, serving as a school representative for local union affiliates. During her teaching career, Ms. Farlow earned a Master's Degree in English Education from OSU.
Ms. Farlow received a juris doctorate from OSU in 1985. During law school she served on the Moot Court Governing Board and the Labor Law Moot Court Team. Her first legal experience was with the Columbus City Attorney's office where she worked in both the civil and criminal divisions.
