Carol R. Schifter is a former trial attorney for the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. She established her family law practice in Montgomery County, Maryland, over 25 years ago. Attorney Schifter has consistently and effectively represented a wide cross-section of adults and children throughout suburban Maryland in all areas of family law.
Attorney Schifter’s practice areas include:
- Divorce
- Child Custody
- Child Support
- Collaborative Law
- Estate Planning
- Family Mediation
- Marital Property Law
- Post-Nuptial Agreements
- Premarital Agreements
- Probate
- Separation Agreements
- Step-Parent Adoption
- Visitation Rights
- Wills
In order to help clients who wish to resolve their cases in a non-adversarial environment without the need for litigation, Ms. Schifter is also trained in both mediation and collaborative law. In mediation, a trained third party helps to negotiate an agreement acceptable to both parties. The collaborative process involves attorneys and a team of professionals, such as financial experts or child specialists, who work together to achieve an amicable resolution of the issues presented by the divorce. These methods of alternative dispute resolution prevent litigation in court, and are usually less expensive and produce more satisfying results for the parties.
With many years of family law experience, Attorney Schifter is well-qualified to assist you in achieving your goals during a difficult time. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from George Washington University and her Juris Doctorate from Catholic University. She has been licensed to practice law in Maryland since 1978.
