Jilted? Ease the pain in court

Jilted husbands and wives once again would be able to sue people for stealing their spouses under proposed legislation in the S.C. Senate. “It should be a law. It’s just like if someone steals your car. If someone steals your wife,” there should be consequences, said sponsor Sen. Jake Knotts, R-Lexington.
His position contradicts the spirit of the 1992 state Supreme Court ruling abolishing the law. Chief Justice David Harwell wrote for the majority that such “heart balm” laws “were rooted in antiquated perceptions that wives are chattel of husbands.”
