Parents divorcing, but she'll survive (Opinion)

In the last 20 years, America has seen a drastic change in marital status. Currently, 10 percent of the U.S. population is divorced, up from 8 percent in 1990 and 6 percent in 1980. One of the main concerns in a divorce is, appropriately, the children and custody. As my parents are joining the ranks of the divorced, I thought I would offer the views of a teenager.
I believe that divorce would be simpler if children weren't involved. Custody battles always seem ridiculous to me, but especially so in the case of our family. My brother and I, both teenagers and of (fairly) sound minds, should be able to decide who we live with and how we spend our time.
