Ellen J. Hirvela, Attorney at Law/Mediator
Ms. Hirvela was admitted to the California Bar in 1993. Prior to that time, Ellen was a Family Support Officer with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Child Support Division, for 12 ½ years. While employed by then District Attorney, Michael D. Bradbury, she gained an in-depth knowledge of the child support program. Ms. Hirvela received the District Attorney Employee of the Year Award in 1990 and the American Jurisprudence award in Criminal Law while attending Ventura College of Law earning her Juris Doctorate Degree.
Since 1993, Ms. Hirvela has practiced exclusively in family law, particularly handling divorce, child support, and child custody issues. She has successfully represented clients in all types of family law cases in the Los Angeles and the Ventura County courts. Ellen has been an effective and efficient advocate, especially in proceedings involving issues of child support, arrears and reimbursement.
An experienced Mediator and also a Collaborative Attorney, Ms. Hirvela earned the UCSB Negotiation, Mediation, and Conflict Management Program Certificate. Ellen is also well-trained in the Collaborative Divorce Model, which she has been practicing since 2002. Ellen is a Board Member for the Coalition for Collaborative Divorce, a Collaborative Practice group serving clients in Los Angeles and Ventura County.
Today, the focus of Ms. Hirvela’s law practice is Divorce without Court: Mediation and Collaborative Divorce. She provides legal consulting on an "unbundled services" basis, and drafts Prenuptial and Cohabitation Agreements as well.
Ms. Hirvela’s training and extensive litigation background, combined with her experience in the Ventura County D.A. Child Support Division, causes her to be particularly sought after for divorce mediation and Collaborative Law Divorce.
