Avoid serious financial problems from your divorce - create a more positive result!

Divorce can be financially devastating. It can be an emotionally charged process that can leave individuals with no sense of what their new life will look like, financially. Most divorcing couples attempt to create a settlement that works for both partners. Unfortunately, even in an amicable divorce, what may look equitable now, often results in financial disaster for one or both of the divorcing individuals over time (see sample divorce plan).

Sometimes 50-50 isn't equitable

Beginning with the division of property, spouses trade assets until the couple agrees on the division. This should result in an "equitable" transfer of the property, which does not mean "equal." It does mean what is "fair." A 50/50 division of property, which may seem "equal" at this time, may not produce equal results-or equal standards of living, after the divorce-if the two spouses are not in the same financial situation at the time of the divorce.

Call John today at (410) 740-8713, for a free initial consultation. When you're confident that are services are right for you, we'll start on your case immediately. We will send you a confirmation letter with a list of items needed for your next meeting. Rest assured that any information you send will be treated as strictly confidential.

We will then use our specialized software to develop financial scenarios for you and your spouse. These will be detailed in narrative, graph, and chart form. This detail will help you fully understand the financial results of your settlement and possibly decrease the time required to finalize your agreement.

After we have gathered the pertinent financial data, the process is quick and surprisingly inexpensive. We will then prepare personalized reports, subject to your approval, and arrange a meeting with you and your attorney to discuss them.

Experience shows that our reports have proven to be very helpful to attorneys engaged in negotiations. Should your settlement proposal reach the divorce courts, John can support you as an expert witness.

Now your attorney and John Faggio, a Financial Divorce Specialist, can work as a team to achieve the best results for you.

Collaborative Divorce Services

John Faggio is a Collaborative Practice Professional. He can work as part of the team with your Collaborative Family Law Attorney to find the best solution  to your divorce settlement. When John is engaged as your consultant (in a Collaborative Process), he is a neutral specialist, who offers independent solutions to help you and your spouse find an agreement that suits your situation.

What is Collaborative Family Law?

Collaborative Family Law is an alternative process to settle your divorce. Unlike the traditional divorce model, where each party's attorney can become a warrior for their client, the Collaborative Process promotes open communication, honesty, and full disclosure of all the relevant facts. The attorneys are sometimes joined by other independent consultants, who participate in meetings with clients, to find solutions that are important and relevant to the spouses. The parties, their attorneys, and consultants enter into a Participation Agreement, which defines the environment that all commit to, to reach an efficient and mutually agreeable settlement without court intervention.

What are the roles of the attorneys?

Your attorney is your advocate (as is your spouse's). Both attorneys facilitate the four-way meetings and provide legal advice, manage emotional or difficult situations, cooperate in gathering pertinent information, and work diligently in helping both spouses reach a solution that is acceptable to them. A hallmark to the Collaborative Family Law process is that each attorney is barred from representing their clients in court, if the process breaks down. The only exception to this is a non-contested divorce proceeding.

What is the difference between Collaboration and Mediation?

In the typical Mediation process, attorneys and neutral consultants are rarely present at meetings. Mediators facilitate the process and cannot provide legal or any other kind of advice. The Collaborative process can incorporate any professional deemed necessary, by the spouses, to help them reach an agreement.

What are the benefits of the Collaborative Process?

  • An agreement that may be better suited to your own unique needs now and in the future

  • A less stressful way of resolving your divorce issues

  • Control over your own decisions when you participate in the Collaborative Process

  • Possible improved communication between you and your spouse, as you focus on creative problem solving rather than blame or revenge

  • Potentially less time and money than you would using court or mediation
