Judi Foley, JD

Ms. Foley is a Member in good standing of the State Bar of California and is a Certified Specialist in the area of Family Law. Effective in October 2005, Ms. Foley no longer takes litigated matters, preferring to assist people out of court in the models of Collaborative Law, Cooperative Law, Mediation, and Limited Scope Representation. She is dedicated to the idea that people can “divorce honorably” outside of the public arena of a courthouse, and further that people can make their own decisions concerning the issues involved in their dissolution of marriage (or registered domestic relationship) in an informed way without the need for a third-party decision maker. She also assists parties in negotiating prenuptial and postnuptial agreements for partners who have lived together and wish to privately resolve the issues between them as they separate their lives.  

Ms. Foley is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Collaborative Family Law Group of San Diego (CFLG-SD) and is its President for the 2007 Calendar year. She served on the Board of Directors in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 as its Secretary. She is the Chair of the Research Committee, the attorney liaison on its Membership Committee, an active member of the Standards Committee, and the leader of the Attorney Discipline Group within the CFLG-SD.  

Ms. Foley regularly speaks to groups interested in the Collaborative Model in an effort to spread the news about this exciting new method of transforming a family without court, including the Rotary Club, La Jolla/Golden Triangle Chapter, EAPA, Lawyers Club of East County, and other organizations. She is qualified as a Settlement Judge in the Family Law Department of the Superior Court in San Diego, California.  

Ms. Foley is a former Member of the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Club of San Diego, a former member of the Board of Directors of Volunteers in Parole, a project between the State Bar of California and the California Youth Authority, a former Delegate to the State Bar Convention, and a member of the San Diego Chapter of the Certified Family Law Specialists.

Ms. Foley has lectured with many organizations, including The International Association of Collaborative Professionals at its Annual Forum in 2006, The Rutter Group, the Law Institute, the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, and the Women’s Institute for Financial Education at its “Second Saturday” sessions. She serves regularly as a Settlement Judge for the San Diego Family Law Court.
