What is Separation / Divorce Mediation?

Mediation is an opportunity for the two of you, with the help of a neutral mediator, to negotiate a mutually-satisfactory Agreement concerning the issues relevant to a separation or divorce. These issues might include the division of property and debt, parenting arrangements, child and/or spousal support, etc. The mediator makes no decisions for you, but rather assists you to reach common ground on each issue. The actual content of the agreement is decided by the parties. The goal is an agreement that is fair and acceptable to both of you, and in the best interests of any minor children.

Mediation is also useful in negotiating post-divorce issues, or other family conflicts.

John C. Juarez, Mediator

John C. Juarez is a full-time mediator with Pamela Britton White Mediation Services. He completed his undergraduate studies at Columbia University, and graduate course work at USC, School of Public Administration. Mr. Juarez has practiced mediation since 2003, having received his initial mediation training from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University’s School of Law and from the Institute for Mediation Studies. He also trained with the Los Angeles County Bar Association and Centinela Family and Youth Services.

As a divorce mediator, Mr. Juarez works with couples as an impartial third-party, assisting them to negotiate the terms of their separation or divorce. Issues include the division of assets and debts, parenting issues, child and spousal support, etc. The goal, in mediation, is to arrive at an agreement that both parties feel is fair and in the best interests of their children. The mediator makes no decisions for the couple, but rather assists them to reach common ground on each issue. Once an agreement is reached, the couple is in a position to seek an uncontested divorce.

In addition to divorce and post-divorce issues, Mr. Juarez mediates other relationship conflicts involving unmarried or same-sex partners, adult siblings, etc. In his practice, Mr. Juarez incorporates multiple styles of mediation; because every dispute has different dynamics, each one calls for different tools from the mediator.

Mr. Juarez is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR), the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), the California Dispute Resolution Council and the Southern California Mediation Association, and an Affiliate/Associate of the Family Law sections of the California, Los Angeles, and Pasadena Bar Associations. He is also a member of the State of California Court of Appeal Settlement Conference Panel, and the LA County Superior Court Mediation Panel. He is a certified mediator with the LA County Bar Association, Dispute Resolution Services and the City of Los Angeles, Office of the City Attorney, Dispute Resolution Program.
