Experience

Jac E. Knust has practiced law for approximately twenty-five years. His career began when he served as an Assistant State's Attorney for Howard County, Maryland where he gained valuable trial experience and experience working with various law enforcement agencies, crime victims, witnesses, and court personnel. He also began his own private law practice working with clients in the evenings.

Attorney Knust later devoted his efforts to the full-time private practice of law and expanded his practice to include a broad range of practice areas, including family law, personal injury, wills, probate and estate planning, business law, and real estate.

His passion for litigation again drew him to criminal law in 1979, when he was appointed as an Assistant Public Defender for Howard County, Maryland. As an Assistant Public Defender for five years, he represented thousands of clients in all areas of criminal law, from drunk driving to murder. Despite a busy trial schedule, Mr. Knust also contininued to represent private clients in all areas of general practice.

Attorney Knust has presented hundreds of seminars in the area of estate planning, wills, and probate to various retirement groups, employees, and individuals.

His practice continues to be varied and Jac Knust commits substantial time to attending continuing education seminars. He has received extensive training as a mediator and is committed to using mediation as an alternative to dispute resolution.

Jac E. Knust -- Biography

Jac E. Knust was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1948. He graduated from Friends School in Baltimore in 1966, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from Clemson University in 1969. Jac played three high school sports and football in college, where he enrolled in ROTC. He returned to Baltimore in 1969 and graduated cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1973. He received his commision as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1972 and was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1976.

Mr. Knust has lived in Columbia, Maryland and Woodbine, Maryland and has restored several older office and residential structures. He has also raised horses, sheep, and goats on his farm in Woodbine.

He enjoys driving and restoring special interest automobiles. His present projects include a 1974 Volkswagon SuperBeetle, a 1982 Porsche 924 Turbo, and a 1984 Dodge Van. He also shares an interest in computers with his two sons, Joshua and Jacob Knust.

Associates

Associate Thomas A. Burns passed the Maryland Bar on December 12, 1995 and is admitted to practice law in Maryland. He is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor degree in May of 1995. He attended Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 1992. His practice is primarily focused upon elder law and domestic matters. His previous employment includes work at the Legal Aid Bureau, the Baltimore City Department of Social Services, and the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. Mr. Burns is married and has a daughter. Tom has been trained in collaborative law techniques and has gained extensive experience in civil, domestic, elder law, and probate areas of the law.

Associate Victor D. Berger is licensed to practice in New York and Maryland. He has been licensed to practice in Maryland since February of 2005, and has gained extensive experience in civil, domestic, and criminal law. He received a graduate degree in law from the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands in March, 1989. Victor also attended the School of Law at Syracuse University from September 1990 through December of 1991. Since relocating to Maryland, he has trained in collaborative law techniques and has gained further experience in practicing criminal law, civil law, and domestic matters. Mr. Berger is married and has four daughters.
