The Divorce Mediators is a resource for couples who are seeking either separation or divorce.  Neither is easy and the stakes are always high.  Among the major concerns that divorce mediation takes into account in a mediated divorce is how to help couples separate or divorce and still remain friends, how to protect their children so that they do not suffer from the break-up of their parents’ marriage and, finally, how to separate the couple’s assets equitably.

Our staff is specifically trained in the skills of divorce mediation. We’d like you to meet our divorce mediators: Joette Warren, Victoria Beech and Jerry Lublin. They all have doctorates in psychology. In addition, they have studied the complex and multi-layered dimensions of both separation and divorce. They have evaluated the benefits of a mediated divorce as compared to a litigated divorce in which husband and wife have their own lawyers and their own ideas about how to get the most beneficial arrangements and terms for themselves.

At the Divorce Mediators, you and your spouse meet with a mediator to discuss and reconcile your differences. Both partners get a good deal, neither feels cheated or angry and the children are protected from consequences that are often disastrous for them,

Over the past several years, many states have mandated that divorcing couples seek divorce through mediation. Although this has not yet been mandated in New York, it is rapidly becoming the preferred solution to divorce. Here’s why: First, in litigated divorces, financial settlements may be skewed toward the partner who has the most money and can afford protracted disputes. Second, the children often become victims in the anger that their parents feel toward each other. Third, winning rather than what is being won – and at what cost – often becomes the objective.

In only a few words – a mediated divorce seeks to find an equitable solution to financial issues as well as a solution which recognizes children’s rights and needs.

Jerry, Joette and Victoria have been specifically trained to address these issues. They also recognize that each couple – as well as their children – have unique needs. The mediation process they prefer is one in which husband and wife are free to express their thoughts and ideas and also to express their needs. The mediation process continues until solutions, acceptable to both parties, are found.
