Who is H. James Newman?
“Jim”
Jim received his BA in Marketing and a minor in Finance from Columbus State University. Working his way through college, Jim worked at Columbus Bank and Trust in various financial and consulting positions. At CB&T, Jim developed a curiosity of finance and economics which would later form his life.
After graduation, Jim worked for Nissan Motor Corporation as a Financial Field Consultant. He traveled to the dealer network and helped automobile dealers with their finances. After traveling for a few years, Jim met his wife, a native to Jacksonville and decided to stop traveling and obtained his Real Estate and Mortgage Broker’s licenses. Jim worked for a Mortgage Broker and Real Estate developer while he studied the capital markets and world economics.
In 1989, Jim became a registered representative and started working as a Financial Advisor for a regional brokerage firm. Since that time, Jim has taken many advance classes on money management, estate planning and retirement planning.
Jim is an investment instructor with the Duval County Schools in their “Continuing Education” division. He also has been an adjunct professor at Jacksonville University, University of North Florida and most recently, FCCJ. He has taught classes to CPAs and Attorneys for “Continuing Education Credits”.
Jim recently finished his executive program with emphasis in finance from one of the top business schools in the country, The Wharton Business School.
He has been a guest lecturer at Barnes and Noble, and periodically has written articles for the Jacksonville Business Journal on personal finance, as well as been regularly asked to be a guest speaker on WTLV-12.
Jim is a Senior Vice President with Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, one of the oldest regional firms on Wall Street. Janney Montgomery Scott LLC has been serving clients since 1832.
Business:
Jim’s practice is advising clients on a wide range of financial matters, including specific investment strategies, overall asset allocation and coordination, retirement planning, education funding, inter-generational financial planning, and life insurance.
There are many choices you must make regarding your money. These choices bridge the gap between where you are now and where you ultimately want to be. Making the “right” choices will give you the highest probability of achieving your desired goals. Jim believes education is the cornerstone for a successful financial plan.
He listens to his client’s “life values” and simply explains how the client can achieve their desired goals. This plan becomes the “road map” to be followed by his client.
Jim feels education is a never ending process that needs to continue throughout the relationship. He does this through “one on one” meetings, workshops, and seminars.
Because of Jim’s use of laymen’s terms instead of fancy financial jargon, many people have told him he makes the investment process easy and simple to understand.
Jim also helps clients plan financial equitable divorce settlements by assisting with investment valuations, spousal benefit analysis, and retirement income projections for clients during the divorce process. He conducts speaking engagements on retirement planning, divorce financial planning, and financial planning for women.
He uses the foundation of written policies and good listening skills that, when paired with his financial planning experiences renders advice that is custom tailored to each individual situation.
