The family law office of Joe Scheideler & Associates, P.C., specializes in family law matters and domestic violence law.
The attorneys in our firm have tried hundreds of cases and thousands of hearings. In addition to litigation, we are proud to have negotiated settlements in roughly three out of four cases. We offer our collaborative efforts in seeking and affording such settlement.
Our approach to each case is unique and depends on the client’s goals and surrounding circumstances. Our advanced multimedia research system allows us to access statutory and case law the minute it is available, enabling our attorneys to provide the best possible representation. Our network of experts in psychology, real estate, accounting, business valuation, investigation, and other adjunct fields provides your case with the information and testimony that make a difference, especially in child custody matters. We have litigated for out-of-state clients who do not have children in Colorado. Tami Elling, our legal assistant, will handle your concerns when the attorneys are in court.

Attorney Profiles
After serving in the U.S. Army’s 9th Division in Vietnam, Joe
Scheideler attended Brooklyn Law School while working as New York
Regional Manager for Kerr Manufacturing and Lee Pharmaceuticals. Shortly
after admission to the bar in 1974, Joe was appointed as Assistant District
Attorney in New York City until 1978, when he was appointed Acting Deputy
Chief of Narcotics. While practicing criminal law in New York, Joe was retained
by many police officers for matrimonial/divorce practice.
In 1992, Joe began almost full-time practice as a family law attorney, with
emphasis on domestic violence matters, in the law firm of Scheideler & Pittam.
As an experienced litigator, Joe recognizes that thorough preparation is the threshold to success in court. His attention to detail encourages negotiated settlements that benefit the client, without sacrificing the best interests of the children. He believes in utilizing professionals from a variety of fields when necessary, such as special advocates, physicians, psychologists, polygraph experts, investigators, actuaries, and accountants.
Joe is admitted to practice in Colorado and New York. He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, Denver Bar Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Colorado Divorce Lawyers’ ListServe, and the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar. Joe is married and lives in Douglas County with his wife, Jana, and their two children. He has two grown boys in New York from a previous marriage.
The firm’s family law associate is Chris Matz, who clerked for several domestic relations law firms while in law school and was previously associated with Vitek & Donniger. As a trial supervisor, Chris gained immense trial experience, especially in the field of domestic violence.
