Caring Advocates for Every Legal Concern Affecting Your Family
The attorney-client relationship in family law is a very personal one, dealing with the most important relationships in your life. It’s important that you feel comfortable with your family law attorney and that you trust your lawyer to understand your needs and have your best interests at heart.
At Sheppard Law Offices, we earn our clients' trust every day as listening, caring legal advocates providing quality legal service with a personal touch. Whatever you family’s legal need, we can help. Our family law attorneys provide a wide range of legal services for families, children, and elders.
Contact our Westerville law office to schedule a free initial consultation in any of the following areas:
- Divorce: The most common reason people seek the help of a family law attorney is to begin a divorce and reach agreement on property division, child custody, child support, and alimony. The Ohio divorce lawyers at Sheppard Law Offices assist clients in each of these areas, with particular understanding of the tax implications of your property division and support agreements. With a degree in tax law, attorney Ken Sheppard can help you avoid unintended tax consequences from your divorce settlement agreement.
- Child Custody and Child Support: Long after your divorce is completed, child custody and child support issues may require you to go back to court. It’s common to seek a modification of a child support order or even a custody order as financial and family situations change and children grow. We also help custodial parents who are having problems getting the child support they are owed.
- Prenuptial and Cohabitation Agreements: Couples have many reasons for wanting to give legal structure to their relationships. Prenuptial agreements are becoming more common for second marriages when one or both members of the couple have children for whom they want to protect assets and ensure inheritance rights. Cohabitation agreements give legal structure to relationships for couples who are living together and sharing expenses, and who want to formalize their relationship. A cohabitation agreement will also work for same sex couples.
- Adoption: The attorneys at Sheppard Law Offices are pleased to provide assistance with all types of adoption, whether a domestic independent placement, a step-parent adoption, or finalizing an international adoption.
- Guardianships and Conservatorships: If you need to ensure care for a minor child, a family member with a mental illness or disability, or a frail elder who is no longer able to handle personal finances, we can help you gain guardianship or conservatorship. Contact our office to learn more about caring for an elder family member and whether conservatorship or a power of attorney will work in your situation.
- Estate Planning: An estate plan not only allows you to name beneficiaries who will inherit your property in the future; it can also provide a tax savings today. We can show you the most cost-effective means to transfer property. For our client’s convenience, we provide Will Plan Packages and Trust Plan Packages that include living wills, durable powers of attorney for financial or healthcare decision-making, and provisions for guardianship of minor children.
At Sheppard Law Offices, we listen, we advocate, and we care about the individuals and families who come to our office. Contact our Westerville Law Offices to schedule a free initial consultation. We look forward to serving you.
