Family law is one of the most complex areas of the law to learn and practice. A family law practitioner must have a working knowledge of how to value and divide community property, how to trace community property, how to value businesses and real estate, the factors to consider in the calculation of child support and spousal support, and how to create parenting plans and handle child custody issues.
Additionally, the family law attorney works with individuals often at the most traumatic point of their lives. Thus, the practice of the profession not only involves tremendous knowledge and experience, but the ability to communicate, understand and work with clients at what is often their most emotional and difficult time.
The ideal family law practitioner is patient, supportive, creative, and thorough, with good, up-to-date knowledge of the law. As each case has its own rhythm, an outstanding family law attorney will work to resolve the issues of the conflict as quickly as the parties are able to proceed.
Leslee J. Newman has been practicing family law since 1982. She is a certified family law specialist, licensed through the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization, and limits her practice to family law and child custody proceedings.
Ms. Newman is also a frequent contributor to the Orange County Family Law Section educational seminars, and co-edited the "Family Law Corner" feature of the Orange County Bar Association's monthly magazine for three years. She has also served as a volunteer judge to the Orange County family law panel, and a volunteer arbitrator for the Orange County Bar Association. She is currently a Director of the Executive Committee of the Orange County Family Law Section.
Ms. Newman focuses her family law practice on collaborative divorce, mediation, and litigation. Her goal is to provide a high quality of service, and satisfaction to each of her clients.
