Attorney Marcia Soto:
Ms. Soto has been practicing family law in Miami, Florida for 19 years. Focusing exclusively on Marital and Family Law issues, Ms. Soto has been in sole practice since 1995. Prior to 1995, she was a partner at the law firm of Kluger, Peretz, Kaplan & Berlin. A native of San Jose, Costa Rica, she is fluent in English and Spanish and frequently handles matters that require her bilingual skills. Ms. Soto has handled numerous cases for international clients. Consequently, she is aware of the specific concerns that such clients have especially as they relate to custody, visitation and relocation issues.
Ms. Soto is Board Certified in Marital and Family Law. In order to become a certified specialist in Florida, a lawyer must have the following qualifications: be a member in good standing of the Florida Bar, have practiced law for a minimum of five years, pass a written examination in his or her specialty area, demonstrate substantial experience in the specialty area, complete approved continuing legal education programs, and have sufficient ability and experience in the specialty field to be favorably evaluated by judges and other lawyers. Ms. Soto has been board certified since June 1, 1994. In Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, a directory rating legal ability and general ethical standards of attorneys, Ms. Soto is awarded an “AV” designation, the highest rating given by this organization.
Ms Soto is also a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. The Academy is an organization of the nation's top matrimonial attorneys from 47 states. The Academy is recognized as the pre-eminent family law association in America with more than 1,500 Fellows. Fellows of the Academy concentrate their practice in Family and matrimonial law and are recognized by their colleagues and by the judges where they practice as leading experts in the field. To apply for membership in the Academy, a candidate must first have been admitted to the Bar for at least ten years and have concentrated at least seventy five percent of his or her practice in matrimonial law. Candidates from states where family law is subject to certification must also be certified as specialists.
Ms. Soto graduated from the University of Miami in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and the distinction of Cum Laude from the Honors Program. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1986. While in law school she was a member of the University of Miami Law Review and the Moot Court Board, Vice-President and Senator of the Student Bar Association, and President of the Bar and Gavel Society, a service and leadership organization.
Ms. Soto was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1986 and is licensed to practice in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Ms. Soto's recognizes that clients involved in family law litigation have unique personal needs which require special attention. Ms. Soto believes that when a family case is unnecessarily delayed, the only people who suffer are the litigants and their families, and the only people who benefit are their lawyers.
