The Separating Together Collaborative Practice Group
Separation and divorce is often a difficult and confusing time. The legal aspects of separation and divorce can easily turn things bitter and mean, because the legal system and litigation attorneys are adversarial in their approach to dispute resolution. Differences between spouses escalate rather than resolve within this environment.
The attorneys who make up the Separating Together Practice Group protect their clients’ interests and legal rights, while at the same time providing a non-adversarial, collaborative process for legally separating and divorcing. Separating Together is unique because the member attorneys practice exclusively in the area of collaborative, non-court family law. These attorneys have extensive experience in working with separating couples to resolve differences and arrive at mutually satisfactory settlements. The process occurs outside of the court system and away from the environment that fosters increased conflict.
When couples desire, Separating Together provides for each spouse to have an attorney throughout the process. Separating Together attorneys work within an interest-based negotiation model developed by the Harvard Negotiation Project. Participants may also choose to include other supporting professionals, such as psychologists, valuation consultants, and accountants. Families and individuals are empowered to resolve even the most difficult disputes through negotiation and mediated discussions. Differences resolved in this way generate creative, comprehensive solutions that lead to healthier families and working relationships after divorce.
Separating Together is a collaborative practice group and not a law firm. The member attorneys of Separating Together are independent of each other, but the member attorneys have agreed that they will restrict their law practices to handling separation and divorce through non-adversarial, transformative conflict resolution and settlement negotiation. The content of this website is provided for informational purposes only, and should not be construed as legal advice.
