Divorce and other family law matters often involve extremely personal issues that must be dealt with in a legal environment. At the Law Offices of Robin T. Wernik in Hazlet, New Jersey, we are family lawyers who provide you with personal attention and promote settlement first to resolve these sensitive matters. In our practice of family law and divorce, we handle issues regarding the following:

  • Civil Unions
  • Dissolutions
  • Child Custody
  • Visitation
  • Grandparent Rights
  • Alimony
  • Adoptions
  • Domestic Violence
  • Premarital Agreements
  • Mediation
  • Wills and Trusts
  • Paternity

Mediation and Settlement versus Litigation

When an issue is rife with emotion, frustration, or even anger, rational thought does not always control decision-making. The goal in resolving a divorce or support-related issue is to make reasonable and rational decisions that are in your best interests and the best interests of your children. As family lawyers, we encourage our clients to try and work out their issues in an environment that promotes settlement. We will conduct a thorough evaluation of your family's assets and debts in order to negotiate a fair settlement.

Litigation can be time-consuming and expensive. Perhaps more importantly, it takes control of the situation away from the people who truly understand the situation. Essentially, you are placing important decisions about your future in the hands of the judge. By resolving your divorce and support matters outside of the courtroom, you are establishing the parameters of the discussions, putting all issues on the table, and discussing resolutions in an open environment. The greatest benefit of this is not just saving money and time, but facilitating positive post-marital relationships and ensuring that your children's best interests comes first.

If settlement and/or mediation does not work, we have a high success rate in court. As your family lawyer and legal advocate, we will represent you in the courtroom if that is the best way to resolve the matter. At the Law Offices of Robin T. Wernik, we do not shy away from litigation when it is in the best interests of my clients. We will prepare your case for trial with creative and effective strategies and strict attention to detail.

Child Custody and Visitation

Our experience in child custody cases goes beyond simple matters in New Jersey courtrooms. Our success and knowledge in this area of law includes complex matters and a high-profile case that brought us national recognition. At the Law Offices of Robin T. Wernik in Hazlet, New Jersey, we bring that expertise to every case in helping our clients resolve important and often emotional legal matters.

High-Profile Child Custody Case

In 2000, Robin T. Wernik appeared before the New Jersey Supreme Court on behalf of a client seeking visitation of a former partner's biological children. She successfully argued that third parties who live in family-type settings cannot have a bond with a child unilaterally terminated by the biological parent. With the consent of the legal parent, they can achieve a "psychological parent" status with the child. The case received recognition throughout the nation as a groundbreaking ruling by the court for the parental rights of gays and lesbians.

Diligence and Dedication for Your Case

At the Law Offices of Robin T. Wernik, we will handle your child custody case with the same diligence and dedication we bring to every case. We can be your advocates in protecting your rights to see your child. As lawyers who focuses on settlement and mediation, we hope to resolve custody matters through negotiation and not litigation. However, if that is the best option available, we will aggressively represent you at trial.
