Welcome to Divorce Financial Strategy
We Help You Achieve Peace of Mind During Your Divorce
Divorce Financial Strategy is a professional divorce financial planning services firm based in Ithaca, New York that focuses exclusively on providing divorcing clients (and their attorneys) the financial expertise to support an informed, realistic and viable divorce settlement. Services include both pre- and post-divorce financial planning services.
Sherry Auble is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst™ (CDFA™), specially trained and certified by the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts™ (IDFA™) to analyze and evaluate divorce settlements, including the tax implications of dividing property and options for dividing pensions/401(k) plans, marital property, and awarding of child support and spousal support (alimony). We are qualified to serve as a financial expert on divorce cases and can present powerful analysis and data to back up any disagreements. Our purpose is to help educate clients on the financial implications of different divorce settlement proposals that will help them make the best possible decision during divorce negotiations.
Statistics indicate that divorce happens to approximately 2.2 million people each year and 100% of divorces involve financial settlements. The realities of divorce can be overwhelming. With over 50% of first marriages and 70% of second marriages ending, it is clear that people need professional financial advice and guidance when making the decision to dissolve their marriage. The CDFA™ is a comprehensive divorce planning designation that includes training in:
- Personal versus marital property
- Valuing and dividing property
- Retirement plans, pension plans, and QDROs
- Splitting the house
- Tax problems and solutions
- Providing litigation support to attorneys
During this difficult time financial issues are combined with emotions and the results can be devastating. Decisions made today can seriously impact your life going forward. At Divorce Financial Strategy, we can provide the information and financial settlement analysis to enable you to plan and secure an equitable and practical settlement that works after the divorce.
Although a proposed settlement may look equal today, it may look very different five or ten years from now, once factors like inflation, capital growth, and deferred taxes are taken into consideration. We take an analytical approach and provide powerful charts and spreadsheets using the IDFA™ proprietary Divorce Settlement Analyst software and Family Law Software. Utilizing the software, we are able to resolve actual cases that focus on the key financial issues of most divorces. The software produces reports and graphs that depict the financial status, cash flow, and graphic net worth of both the husband and wife as compared to each other. This can optimize the eventual outcome by minimizing taxes, avoiding costly mistakes, and providing you and your attorney with the information to make more informed decisions.
“Achieving the Fairest, Most Financially Equitable Divorce Settlement Possible - We Take Your Future Into Account.”

Our Mission
Our mission is to serve our divorce clients with the best financial, investment and tax advice prior to, during, and after divorce. We strive to be the most competent financial advisor in our field so that we may provide education, peace of mind, and security for our clients.
We understand how important competent financial advice is to your future when going through a divorce. We are committed to spending the necessary time to help you get through this difficult period of transition, and assist you by developing a strong financial plan for the years ahead.
We provide financial expertise and strategic planning in the settlement process to help you better understand the financial consequences and outcome that are a result of divorce. We work to represent your interest to gain the best property settlement, alimony, and child support possible.
What We Do
We bring together the process and understanding of the financial aspects of a divorce and the financial outcome afterward. We provide expert financial analysis to determine the best property, alimony, and child support settlement possible. Our expertise is working with individuals that need help with this specialized area of divorce.
Through our experience, we will analyze and assess the married and separate assets and liabilities and calculate income and expenses so that we can prepare a written divorce plan quantifying the future outcome of the divorce.
As part of our divorce plan, we will help determine a proposed property settlement and the alimony and child support payments that should be made. We evaluate and take into consideration tax planning, cash flow, investment return, inflation, and major purchases that will have a future impact in the years to come. We will determine the long-term outcome of a lump sum settlement and how long your assets will last, based on your monthly budget. Further, we will meet with you to discuss and review the divorce plan so you understand the financial impact and your future direction.
Our support doesn't end after the settlement. We will be available to help you with financial planning, asset protection, tax planning and preparation, and investment management of your portfolio in the future.
Most important, we work diligently and in union with your attorney. Together, we can provide a comprehensive approach to provide you with the best outcome through your divorce.
Our Commitment to Our Clients
We will work with you, your attorney, and other trusted advisors to coordinate the legal and financial aspects of your divorce. We will help you through difficult choices that are often part of the divorce so that you can start building your new life. Perhaps most importantly, we can reduce the stress inherent in every divorce, helping prepare you for a financially successful future.
