Lawlady, Inc.
Are you open to the possibility that your divorce can go smoother, faster, and less expensive than divorce is rumored to be? Collaborative law has the potential to be a very effective method for conflict resolution, but it is not right was every couple. It works for couples who desire a win/win outcome, and are willing to modify their behavior in four-way sessions (with the two lawyers and two clients) if it means achieving their personal goals. Collaborative law opens up the possibility of solutions more unique and well suited to the family than what a court might award. But it takes a basic level of trust between you and your spouse to make the model work. For those couples, they report being very satisfied with the results.

My name is Stefani Quane. I am the principle attorney at Lawlady, Inc. I have been a lawyer for 16 years. I litigated for the first 8 years, before coming to the realization: litigation is a crude tool. For the past eight years, I have focused my career on helping couples finds solutions to domestic problems without utilizing the court system. (It is possible!). I am a mediator; I represent two people in a divorce (many lawyers won’t); and I also practice collaborative law. I find I need to go to court in only 20% of my cases.

Price Options:
My law firm offers a variety of services at different price options:

  • hourly rates for attorney services;
  • paralegal office hours on Monday afternoons ($1 a minute);
  • flat-fee divorce packages; and
  • divorce classes, starting in April 2005.

I frequently refer clients to other professionals during the course of our work. This saves you money because other professionals charge less than lawyer rates, and you receive diversity of professional opinion.

Office Location:
In December 2004, I purchased a Tudor house at 68th and Roosevelt to serve as the office for Lawlady, Inc. I wanted clients to have a nurturing experience while visiting their lawyer. There is ample, free parking, and we meet in a space that has the comfort of a home. Up until a few months ago, it was someone’s home.

Collaborative Law Experience:
I strive to stay well educated on techniques designed to lead to win/win settlements. I am active in the collaborative law community. I co-founded Washington’s first collaborative law group, write a monthly regional collaborative law newsletter for lawyers, and train other lawyers in the model. In October 2004, I spoke at the international symposium for collaborative law.

Holistic Philosophy:
I think it is important to honor the deeper experiences of divorce. I offer clients insights into how to bring more meaning to the divorce process through ritual and ceremony. Periodically, I focus the attention back to the important point about divorce: this is a major life transition. How can we launch you into the brightest future imaginable? My work is designed to, not only to move you through the technical aspects of divorce, but also to help propel you forward to the life of your dreams. I like to think of myself as a smart lawyer with good common sense and an ability to be tough when necessary. But what I value most about myself is that I’ve managed to work in this dark industry of divorce without becoming cynical or harsh. I feel honored to work with clients at this critical life juncture, imparting hope for a better tomorrow.
