Civil Split Services

Civil Split provides a service you will find nowhere else: a service significantly beyond the simple preparation of forms. I only intend to deliver everything you will need to complete an uncontested divorce, separation, or annulment. Filing for divorce does not have to be expensive and it no longer has to be difficult.

What I do:

  • Become your personal assistant
  • Fill in and complete your documents
  • File your documents with the county court; on line or with the clerk
  • Serve process
  • Make sure all documents are signed, dated, and if necessary, notarized & filed in the correct order
  • Follow your documents through the process
  • Inform you of any updates from the court
  • Manage all the complex and tedious details regarding the process of your documents
  • Notify you when the court requires information, updates, etc.
  • Keep a dated record of when each step was completed
  • Make several copies as required for the court, your future use, and reference
  • Follow through Petition/Response until judgment is entered (Entry of Judgment signed) and final
  • Provide two live on-line forums a month with a San Mateo County family law specialist
  • Furnish private on-line forums for discussion
  • If essential to support your needs, refer to you a family law attorney in San Mateo County
  • Upon request, refer you to a psychologist/counselor who can assist in your life changes and moving on

Once your documents are filed and assigned a case number, I follow up each and every business day. You will receive correspondence from me via email or phone informing you of each posting from the court. All of your calls will be received by and returned from me. You can expect my respect, attention, courtesy, responsibility, confidentiality, and dedication.

**I am often involved with frequent meetings or telephone calls and you may reach my voicemail; I will make every effort to return your call the day it is received. Emails will be responded to within 24 hours.

Customer Service = Unlimited & Individualized Support

Flat Rate On All The Above Listed Services With Or Without Children

My service is affordable, easy, accurate, and the quickest way to start and finalize your divorce. As long as you and your spouse or partner are in agreement, unnecessary legal fees can be eliminated. An amicable divorce or separation streamlines the document preparation and filing process. Your county court filing fees, service of process, notary services (if required), and my cost for all the above listed services are included in one fee.

There are no hidden fees or additional costs beyond what is stated. You can request a copy of the "Service and Fees Agreement" by email: Sandy@CivilSplit.com.

What I am not allowed to do:

  • Legally suggest, advise, or direct you in answering any of the documents, forms, or procedures
  • Provide you with emotional counsel
  • Assist any separation or dissolve that is other than uncontested

I do not provide legal advice regarding your case. I provide a general explanation of the law regarding specific issues and provide the state and county laws regarding those issues. I do not provide any of the law regarding all issues. I am not a substitute for the advice of an attorney.

My support is available to provide as much help as you need from start to finish. If you need actual legal advice, I suggest contacting a lawyer. Beyond legal advice, I actively help you navigate the documents and the filing procedure.

  • No engagement in the practice of law
  • Ethical and efficient service to everyone
  • Fully compliant with applicable state and federal laws
  • Never represent myself as a lawyer
  • Full disclosure of costs and terms

The legal community has finally warmed up to Legal Document Assistants. California law recognizes them under Business and Professions Code 6400-6415, the county courts have allowed their registration, and successful attorneys are catching on that we are their best friend.

B & P Code 6400-6415 defines what a Legal Document Assistant (LDA) is allowed to do by law. The courts know when a self-represented litigant has retained an LDA. Each and every document filed must contain the following information: the LDA's name, business address, telephone number, registration number, expiration date of registration, and the county of that registration.

When You're Going Through Hell...Go Fast & Keep Moving

I was inspired to do this work after months of observing the family law lines at our county courthouse. The "first come, first served" sign-in sheet and the many people waiting several hours to ask the Family Law Facilitator a question that simply summed up, "How do I end this and get on with my life?" Nearly all were uncontested, could not afford an attorney, and/or did not qualify for financial aid.

After some research, I realized how many were still in a legal marriage and yet both persons were living apart (many with others). They didn't want the hassle of a legal process, couldn't grasp the complexities, didn't have the time and/or money. Some would file the necessary documents, but for understandable reasons would not complete the process (unfamiliar with court procedures, incomplete filing, or not able to follow up). The courts do not like it and judges are never happy with backlogs. This was not good.

With support, guidance, and assistance from friends, attorneys, and "tolerant" instructors, I set out to accomplish my aim. I registered to be a Server of Process, received my Notary Commission and an eNotary certification, worked hard to achieve my Legal Document Assistant (LDA) registration, swore to uphold an ethical code of standards, became a proud member of both CALDA and NALDP, formed Civil Split into a Limited Liability Company (LLC), and have served all of my clients successfully.

If I do my job right, I will be useful in serving you and you will be free for more important matters in your life...like moving on.

My support and service will be committed to you.

In my efforts to provide you with excellent service, I am constantly meeting with family law attorneys, counselors, mediators, facilitators, San Mateo County clerks, and colleagues. I attend family law courses, conferences, seminars, and workshops to remain current with the written law, Notary and eNotary laws, LDA and NALDP codes of conduct, and to satisfy all process serving certification requirements.
