Teresa Ombres is a graduate of Fordham University and New York Law School, and is admitted to the practice of law in the States of New York and New Jersey. She began her career in divorce and family law in 1981. In 1996 she discovered mediation. From 2000 – 2003 Teresa was the Director of the Custody-Visitation Mediation Program at Community Mediation Services in Queens. In 2001 she was trained in Collaborative Law and is one of the few attorneys in the New York area able to offer this relatively new service. She now devotes all of her time to her private practice and a number of professional organizations. She handles contested cases as well as mediations and collaborative cases. She especially enjoys the challenge of showing her adversaries a better, more amicable, less expensive way of resolving divorce cases. Teresa is a member of the Board of Directors of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York where she chairs the Legislative Committee. She is a founding member (and Treasurer) of the New York Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. She is also a member of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation and the New York Collaborative Law Group. She is a guest lecturer at CUNY Law School and has won the distinction of being named one of Queens’ Top 10 Women in Business.
