Zerman Mogerman LLC is a voice of reason and experience in the very
difficult and frequently acrimonious field of divorce law. We represent
individuals in dissolution of marriage proceedings, legal separations,
proceedings to modify existing decrees, proceedings to enforce existing
decrees, proceedings to collect child and spousal support, and in
certain paternity actions. We also handle appeals of family law cases.
Our practice is limited exclusively to divorce law, concentrating on
complex cases involving substantial assets, business interests,
professional practices, contested child custody issues, and appellate
practice.
The firm consists of eight attorneys representing over one hundred
and thirty years of cumulative experience in these matters. We make
every reasonable effort to negotiate satisfactory settlements in these
difficult cases. When settlement proves impossible, we are prepared to
try the case in court. We are aided in our efforts by experienced legal
assistants, and other attentive support staff.
Our approach in every case is a simple one: we try to do everything
that can and should be done to insure our client is in the strongest
possible position to negotiate a settlement or present a contested case
to the court in a trial. This is never the result of good luck or good
intentions. Rather, such results are only made possible by careful,
diligent, and thorough attention to all facts and legal issues raised in
the case, attention to the clientâs concerns and objectives, and
detailed knowledge of the court and the applicable law.
The dissolution of oneâs marriage represents as much the unwinding of
an economic partnership as it does the severing of an emotional
relationship originally founded upon love, trust, and confidence.
Clients navigating through this painful process deserve the most
patient, thorough, and competent representation possible under these
circumstances.
We have a written engagement agreement with every client. Our charges
in most cases are hourly, at specified rates for specified individuals
in our firm. We may, however, propose other fee arrangements for
particular types of matters, depending upon circumstances. Statements
are typically sent to our clients on a monthly basis.
Our firm primarily represents clients in the City and County of St.
Louis, Missouri, although we have also represented clients in St.
Charles, Lincoln, Pike, Franklin, Jefferson, Warren, Phelps, Boone, and
Platte counties in Missouri, and Madison County, Illinois, in
appropriate cases in recent years.
We maintain offices in Park Place, 100 S. Brentwood Boulevard, in the
City of Clayton, Missouri. The building is directly across Brentwood
Boulevard from the Shaw Park Pools, at the corner of Brentwood and
Carondelet. Clayton is the government center for St. Louis County, and
our location affords a one-block walk to the County Courts Building.
Parking for our clients and other visitors is available on the parking
deck adjoining our building; the entrance is on Carondelet Avenue.

INTRODUCTION
The enactment of Supreme Court Rule 1.17 on the sale of a law practice removes an existing inequity in the treatment of lawyers based upon the legal nature of the entity within which they practice law. The valuation of a law practice has its own unique aspects which set these valuations apart from the valuation of other professional practices.

I. INTRODUCTION
A divorce client may inquire about obtaining evidence for his divorce case by tape-recording his wife's telephone calls to third parties without her knowledge. Alternatively, a client may appear in her attorney's office with audiotapes in hand which purport to contain telephone conversations between her husband and third parties.
