Allan H. Zerman - Mr. Zerman has been in the private practice of law since 1960, when he graduated from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. He maintained a general civil and criminal law practice for the first twenty years of his professional life, with an emphasis in trial practice. Ultimately, he concluded his clients would best be served by the limitation of his practice to a particular field. He selected family law, and has limited his practice to such matters since that time.

Mr. Zerman is listed in Naifeh and Smith, The Best Lawyers in America, for Family Law. He has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1987, and is a former president of its Missouri Chapter. He holds the "AV" rating of the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory. Mr. Zerman has lectured throughout the State of Missouri on family law topics for such sponsors of continuing legal education programming as The Missouri Bar, the University of Missouri, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He has co-authored many articles for legal journals and continuing legal education programs. Several of those articles appear elsewhere on this web page. He has also co-authored two chapters in the two-volume book entitled Missouri Family Law; one chapter is entitled "Characterization and Division of Property in Divorce." The other chapter is entitled "Conflicts of Law." His comments regarding developments in family law are frequently sought by the publication "Missouri Lawyers’ Weekly." He is married and the father of four children.

Cary J. Mogerman - Mr. Mogerman received his undergraduate degree in 1982 from Drake University, and has been in the private practice of law since 1985, when he graduated from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. The first four years of his litigation practice involved the defense of medical malpractice cases and general commercial litigation. In 1989, he chose to limit his practice to family law and joined Mr. Zerman in law practice. He has limited his practice to such matters since that time.

Mr. Mogerman has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1995, and is a member of the Family Law Sections of the American Bar Association, the Missouri Bar, and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. He served as Chair of the Family Law Section of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis from 1993 to 1995. He was the 1997 recipient of the John C. Shepherd Award for Professionalism in the Practice of Law, presented by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, Young Lawyers Division. The award, presented annually, is named in honor of the late St. Louis lawyer and former ABA president, and is presented to "…the young lawyer who most exemplifies the tenets of professionalism of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis." He holds the "AV" rating of the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory, and has been selected for inclusion in the eighth edition of Naifeh and Smith, The Best Lawyers in America, for Family Law.

Mr. Mogerman has lectured on family law topics for such sponsors of continuing legal education programming as The Missouri Bar, the University of Missouri, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the St. Louis County Bar Association, and the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation. He has co-authored many articles for legal journals and continuing legal education programs. Several of those articles appear elsewhere on this web page. He has also co-authored two chapters in the book entitled Missouri Family Law; one chapter is entitled "Characterization and Division of Property in Divorce." The other chapter is entitled "Conflicts of Law." Mr. Mogerman maintains a special interest in appellate practice; he has briefed and argued over twenty appeals in the Missouri Court of Appeals and the Missouri Supreme Court.

Mr. Mogerman has served on the Board of Trustees of Congregation Temple Israel since 1993. He has been an officer (Treasurer and currently President) since 1996. He is married and the father of three sons.

Mary E. Niemira graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law with a J.D. degree, cum laude, in 1992. While attending law school, she was inducted into the Order of the Coif, the national legal academic honor society. She received American Jurisprudence awards for having received the highest grades awarded in three of her law school courses, and was listed on the Dean’s List for all semesters during her attendance there. After graduation, she served the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, as a clerk to the Honorable Stanley Grimm. She has been associated with the firm of Zerman & Mogerman, L.L.C. since 1993, pursuing a special interest and emphasis in appellate practice.

Jack C. Hauser, Jr. graduated from Creighton University School of Law with a J.D. degree in 1994, where he received the American Jurisprudence Award for Products Liability, and the highest grade award for International Business Transactions. He also served as a member of the Domestic Moot Court Board and Captain of the Phillip J. Jessup International Moot Court Team. After graduation, he served as an Assistant Public Defender and then the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Child Support Enforcement in the 26th Judicial Circuit. Prior to joining our firm, he was associated with the firm of Carson & Coil, P.C. in Jefferson City, where his practice was limited exclusively to domestic relations matters. He is a graduate of the National College of District Attorneys Trial Advocacy School. Since 1998 he has served as the editor and update author of the paternity chapter of West's Bench Book for Missouri Trial Judges. In addition, he has written for and lectured about family law matters as part of the Missouri Bar's continuing legal education program.

James P. Carmody received his law degree, cum laude, from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1988. He was a member of the Kniep Moot Court Society, and was awarded the honor for the Best Brief in the Moot Court competition in 1987-88. Upon graduation, Mr. Carmody was inducted into the Order of the Woolsack academic Honor Society. Following graduation, Mr. Carmody practiced general civil litigation for approximately 3 years, before electing to concentrate his practice in matrimonial law in 1992. Mr. Carmody is a member of the Missouri and Illinois Bars, the American Bar Association, and several local bar associations.

Penny Robinson graduated from Indiana University School of Law in 1990 with a J.D. degree. She was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1991. Ms. Robinson was a member of the Indianapolis law firm Miroff, Cross and Klineman n/k/a Miroff, Cross and Woolsey from 1991 until 2002 practicing in the area of family law. Her practice also included adoption and contested adoptions. She is a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. She was a member of the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the Indianapolis Bar Association and also served as Chair of that section in 2001. Ms. Robinson lectured on family law topics in Indiana for the Indianapolis Bar Association and Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum. She has been certified as a family law mediator in Indiana since 1996. She was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 2002 and is continuing to pursue her interest in domestic relations with the firm of Zerman & Mogerman, L.L.C. She is a member of the Family Sections of the American Bar Association, the Missouri Bar, and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.

Ms. Robinson was recently married to David Grossman, a resident of St. Louis since 1975. She has one son, a stepson, and a stepdaughter.

Legal Assistants

Phyllis Kassen - Ms. Kassen is a graduate of University of Illinois, with a degree in political science conferred in 1990. She obtained her paralegal certification from the Mid-America Paralegal Institute in 1991. She has been with the firm of Zerman & Mogerman, L.L.C. since 1994. Before joining our firm, she was employed as a legal assistant with the Chicago, Illinois lawfirm of Willian, Brinks, Hofer, Gilson & Lione, where her work was primarily in the field of commercial litigation.

Deborah D. Littmann received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton and completed her paralegal training at the Philadelphia Paralegal Institute. Before joining our firm, she was employed for fourteen years as a paralegal in a law practice in Mineola, New York, with emphasis in business transactions. Prior to that, she was employed in the litigation department of Guilfoil, Petzall and Shoemake in St. Louis.
