Pennsylvania allows a physically, sexually and , in some cases, a mentally and emotionally abused spouse to seek court protection. The act's purpose is to prevent physical and sexual abuse. Typical remedies include the temporary grant of the parties' residence, support , custody and the return of personal property. Violation of a Protection From Abuse Order can result in imprisonment and large fines.
