I am divorced and my child support was calculated on earnings when work was steady, and I pay a set amount each week. Now I am laid off from work about half the time (Work two weeks then off two weeks) and it is uncertain whether business will get back to "normal" or the company will go bankrupt. When I'm laid off I get unemployment insurance but it is less than half of what I earn while working. I know I have to go back to court to get the child support changed but it would seem unrealistic to do that every two weeks. Is there some way to solve this dilemma? (My ex wants the full amount every week). – Bob

Answer:
Bob: I would try using your income for the year so far to predict your income for the current year and ask the court to use that for child support.
